The Real Housewives of New Jersey - Episodes 13 & 14 Recap

This weeks #RHONJ blog will be a hybrid of highlights from the last 2 episodes since I didn't get the chance to recap last week!

Episode Thirteen

Teresa is working hard on building her brand, and is in the preliminary stages of developing what will become the Fabellini.  Joe Giudice is his usual unsupportive, negative self.  She doesn't like things that taste "diet-y" and specifically names "Skinnygirl" as something that she doesn't like.  Hmmm - taking a hit at Bethenny are we?

Melissa decides to stay an independent recording artist for now and let the record labels come to her.  She does a photo shoot for some of her single covers, and her styling is great!  (Another appearance by the fabulous George Miguel and Robyn from Illumination PR.)

Teresa and Joe go to an Italian bakery for a book signing and the place is mobbed (no pun intended).  She is signing copies of Fabulicious, and Joe is in the back room drinking wine.  Kathy and Rich showed up and Teresa's book signing to be supportive.  And Kathy invites her to her dessert tasting that she is having.  Once Teresa starts flipping through the book, looking at the desserts and Kathy starts commenting on the recipes that are her mom's, it got a little tense between the two of them.  Teresa commenting that she didn't think people would be a dessert-only cook book didn't help the situation.  Kathy and Rich left, and once outside acknowledged that it was strange to hear Teresa talking about baking.

During an interview segment that is edited in, we see Caroline discussing her concern about the future of the Giudice marriage.  She feels that Teresa wants it all and unfortunately that's going to come at Joe's expense.  Caroline feels that Joe is going to have to "go away somewhere" and then Teresa will have to pull herself up by her boot straps, say that she tried for the sake of her children and she can't do it any longer, and write a book about her struggle alone.  It's an interesting prediction that only time will tell if it's true.

Caroline and Lauren discover that the Chateau Salon and Spa space is empty and for rent.  It's important to get the store up and running to Caroline, so she's going to get all the info and see if the space will work for Cafface.

Jacqueline and Lauren have a meeting with a cosmetic line over lunch.  Since Jacqueline  is a licensed cosmetologist and is very in to make-up, she is helping Lauren select products for Cafface.  Recently Jacqueline has been kind of depressed, but feels like Lauren appreciates her advice and that makes her feel important.  During lunch they talk about vajazzling and Lauren describes it as "Rhinestones On Your Chuckie".  That, my friend, should be the phrase of the year!

Kathy set up a tasting tent outside of Gelotti's with three different types of desserts.  Kathy has a ton of ideas and she is definitely interested in feedback.  EVERYONE is there!  Kathy was smart and handed out pre-printed comment cards so that she could get honest feedback.  Teresa and her friend Linda show up and they start talking about Kathy stealing recipes??  Huh?  Teresa is very polite to Kathy's face. Linda seemed kind of bitchy to Kathy and felt the need to jump in between Teresa and Jacqueline.  There was a guy from Bindi Desserts (a high end dessert line) that Richie brought to the tasting to meet Kathy and try her stuff.  He seems interested and wants to get together with her once they return from California.

Chris Laurita invited all of the men over to his house for a Napa trip meeting.  Joe Gorga, Rich Wakile and Joe Giudice came over (if you remember from a few episodes ago, Al declined participating).  Chris wanted the men to get together because "they won't fight with each other".  He's concerned because Teresa and Jacqueline aren't getting along.  The Gorga's and the Giudice's will be sharing an RV together - and Joe Gorga is concerned because the therapist specifically told them NOT to do this.  Chris has the some of the same issues with the Giudice's as the Gorga's do but he is just trying to protect his wife.  Chris has the ability to be in a room with someone that he doesn't like and it doesn't affect him.   Joe Giudice finally showed up (having been driven by a driver).  It's a little awkward when he shows up, and the conversation is stiff.  Chris stresses that it's a business trip for him and it's important to him.  The point is that all of the men are going to talk to their wives.  Joe Giudice feels the need to start insulting Jacqueline and Chris started to defend his wife  Finally, Chris put a stop to it by acknowledging that they will all stand up for their wives.  That's what is supposed to happen.  Joe Giudice isn't thrilled about being in an RV with Joe Gorga.  Juicy doesn't see his wife doing anything wrong.  30 seconds later and the two Joe's are having a he said / she said debate and rehashing the past.  Then Richie jumps in to the conversation and then the three of them were sh*t-talking while Chris Laurita sat there with his hands in his head.  Chris is disappointed with Joe and Teresa because he feels like they knock everyone down and they don't want anyone to do well besides themselves.  The men seemed to end the evening on an okay note with a toast between them, but who knows what going to happen on the road trip!

Episode Fourteen

It's time to kick off the road trip.  Because Hurricane Irene has decided to pummel the East Coast, including New Jersey, all of the airports are shut down.  Everyone caravans to Pittsburgh (a 5 hour car ride), so they can they fly to Houston, wait approximately 4 hours in the airport and then fly to San Francisco.  Overall, it was a 23 hour travel day to get from one coast to another (it usually a 6-7 hour flight).  It looked like they travel day from hell, but they all arrived safely and in decent spirits!

After piling in to what looks like a very large airport shuttle, they are off to Camping World to put up their RVs and supplies.  It's very entertaining to watch  them all run around the camping store like it's Christmas morning and they have an unlimited credit card.  Clearly there was ZERO planning and coordination that went in to the supply selection!  $4700 worth of supplies for 5 days - OMG!!!   I love that Vito smuggled cheese and sausage on the trip!!

Once they finally get on the road, Greg, Joe Gorga and Chris Laurita are driving and everyone is having a little bit of a struggle.   The roads between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay (where they are spending their first night) are narrow and windy so I'm sure it was a challenge for an inexperienced RV driver!  Half Moon Bay is a beautiful quaint town - and it's unfortunate that you only saw the RV park this week.  (As a side note, I lived in the San Francisco Bay area in 2002-2003 and spent a lot of time in Half Moon Bay.  That drive is tricky in a car - I can't imagine doing it in a giant RV!).  Albie is watching the weather back in Jersey because he's got Lindsey staying at his place while he's gone.  Oh yeah - she's moving in when he gets back!  Let's see what Momma Caroline has to say about that!

The one-liners are great - "Camping to Italians is dry sausage and provolone" says Caroline.  Pretty hilarious.  They don't know how to do anything!  Melissa drags Teresa over to meet the "neighbors" at the RV park.  Melissa is way more friendlier with the neighbors and trying to acclimate herself, while Teresa is complaining about pretty much everything which isn't sitting well with the "locals".

Teresa and Kathy end up having a conversation on the first night about Kathy's comments at the book signing.  Kathy wasn't trying to pick a fight with her, and Teresa wanted to tell her how she felt.  I'm glad they were able to have a conversation about it and move on.

The next morning watching Melissa and Teresa in bed together feeling each other fake boobs was ridiculous!  At least they are getting along!  And Richie with "morning wood" that they had to blur out made my sides hurt I laughed so hard!  Poor Kathy was struggling with the convection oven and her muffins were sad.  Even Caroline said she was having a good time with everyone - and avoiding Teresa to make sure no ones trip got ruined.  Kathy, Jacqueline and Caroline talked on that second morning that she was happy with the conversation with Teresa.  Caroline wanted to make sure that her issues didn't "muddy" the waters between the Giudice's and the Wakile's.  Kathy wants everyone to keep an open mind about the Giudice's - she's always the peacemaker and it's one of the best qualities about Kathy.

Melissa and Teresa took a walk on the beach.  Teresa is still harping on the book signing comments, and Melissa thinks it's stupid.  They are a family recipes and Melissa doesn't want Teresa to get bent out of shape about this whole thing.  Melissa tells her that maybe she should sit back and think about why she is having an issue with everyone.  Teresa got a little defensive (nothing like she had in the past) and kept saying that she doesn't hold grudges - but she is holding a grudge with Kathy and the recipe thing!  Melissa was just trying to have her see a perspective that maybe she isn't seeing.  The ladies are able to have a conversation that seems to get heated for a minute, and then comes back down to a good place where they are okay with each other.  It's really great to see them getting along like this!

NEXT WEEK:  More camping fun, and a conversation between Jacqueline and Teresa.
