There were two big events on last night’s episode of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. One was a beautiful celebration of young love and the excitement of a wedding to come. The other a game night of “Celebrity” that turned in to an unofficial casting session for Mean Girls 2.

Lisa Vanderpump has been waiting for her beautiful daughter, Pandora, to get engaged to her long time boyfriend Jason. Earlier this season, we saw Jason ask Ken for Pandora’s hand in marriage. We, the viewer, knew it had happened as soon as Lisa said that Jason and his parents were coming over for dinner. I was excited for Lisa and couldn’t wait to see her reaction!
We got to see more of VanderPump Manor as the dinner guests were arriving and I must say this place is stunning! Is the entire first floor white? Everything is immaculate looking and fabulous! Is Lisa really sitting on a throne at her dining table? That woman oozes glamour – in a cocktail dress and jewels or jeans and an apron in the kitchen. And was I the only one who noticed the striking similarity in appearance between Pandora and her soon-to-be mother–in-law Valerie? When Jason got up and started his toast, you could see Lisa trying not to get her hopes up because she has been down this road before. When he actually said, “I already proposed”, we actually FELT Lisa exhaling with relief. Her tears of joy at dinner (and during her interview) only show what we already know – her children (and Giggy) are her everything.
Things were not so filled with love and light over at Dana’s house for game night. Between crazy big high heels, slippery floors, limited furniture, starving housewives, small amount of desserts, a trying-too-hard hostess, and 2 sisters not in the mood for new people, the whole evening was a disaster with a capital D sprinkled with moments of sheer hilarity.

Our hostess with the most-est, Dana, was adorable in a Valentino outfit. Yes, Valentino . . . . . . Did you hear - Dana was wearing Valentino? Every time someone new walked in the door, the “V” word was dropped. I love a designer label as much as the next girl, but it’s becoming the thing that defines Dana. First the $25,000 sunglasses and now this? I’m hopeful that the label dropping is just a nervous twitch that Dana has and the more comfortable she gets with the women and her place in the group, the less this will happen. Otherwise it’s going to get old, quick.
Brandi came in to the evening feeling vulnerable and defensive from the barbeque at Adrienne’s that we saw last week. She made an admitted bad comment to Dana that she felt bad about, and she was feeling judged by Kyle so she was on edge and maybe prepared to attack if provoked this time. Kyle looked like an everyday housewife, going to a friend’s house to hang out with the girls. It’s one of the reasons I think Kyle is so popular is that she comes across as a “normal” person. The tension between her and Brandi was obvious, and it was hilarious to see how relieved she was when Camille arrived. Anyone who watched last season did a double take at that remark!
Taylor arrived and was grateful to Dana for relieving her of the hosting duties. Game night was originally suppose to be help at the Armstrong house, but Dana offered when Taylor told her it would be too much for her right now. Listening to both Dana and Taylor talk about Dana’s extensive event planning resume and all of the fabulous things she was going to do for game night, I expected to see more than was there. Did you? I understand the concept of dessert and cocktails, but don’t you have more options than breadsticks and meringue? Clearly these are not women who eat a whole lot, and there wasn’t an expectation that dinner was going to be served but still. Chocolate or yogurt covered strawberries? A light parfait of some sort? The women were surprised that there wasn’t more substantial food provided and so was I!

Kim was the last to arrive but clearly wins the award for the best line of the night. As Dana opens the door, Kim calls her Pam! And continued to do so for the remainder of the night. Props to Dana for just realizing that correcting her wasn’t going to get anywhere and embracing her inner Pam-ness. Kim was clearly going through something during this time period. She confided in Kyle that she wasn’t sleeping or eating, crying a lot, and having panic and anxiety attacks. She has come across as scattered and unfocused during the last two episodes. Kyle is protective of Kim, trying to fix her make-up and her clothes, talking to her and trying to get her in to a good place to enjoy the evening.
After what seemed like a painfully long time (in which Adrienne called and cancelled) the ladies moved in to another room and the actual “game playing” portion of the evening began. As the teams were assigned (Taylor, Camille, Dana versus Kim, Kyle and Brandi), there was an ominous feeling in the air. They were playing “Celebrity” – seems like Taboo only without words you cant use for famous people. Brandi was feeling isolated, Dana was trying too hard with Kyle and Kim, Taylor and Camille were just trying to go with the flow, and the Richards Sisters suddenly turned in to the Mean Girls. Snarky comments, eye rolling, and cackles of laughter at and about Brandi just lit the fuse for the bomb that would be going off shortly. There definitely was some comic relief (Winston Churchill is Black? Brad Pitt is a Rapper?) and the ladies did look like they were having fun for a little while. But it didn’t last for long.

I don’t want to take sides because I love all of the ladies from Beverly Hills. But I don’t think it was Kyle and Kim’s finest hour. They came across as mean, snarky, and childish and I know that they are both above that. Brandi clearly wants to fit in with the group, but she’s a scrappy chick and she’s only going to take crap for so long before she bites back. Judging from net weeks previews, once Brandi started she let it ALL fly!
