RHOBH Episode 18 Recap - Guest Blog Submission for @RHDailyDose

Here is my latest guest blog for "The Real Housewives Daily Dose" (follow them on Twitter @RHDailyDose).  This is for Episode 18 of this season's "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills".

Aloha! The majority of our gang is still in Lanai, Hawaii to enjoy the beautiful scenery and celebrate Mauricio’s birthday.  Kim and Ken finally arrived, and Kyle is dismayed that they are in the room directly next to her and Mauricio.  She can hear them through the walls and their balconies are connecting.  Kyle tells Lisa this and her reply was “you’re going to hear them humping as well”!  The look on Kyle’s face was priceless because clearly she had a) knew it was true or b) already experienced it and didn’t want to admit it.  HA!

We see Paul and Adrienne out for a hike and it’s great to view a different side of their relationship – one that is softer and more romantic.   They were even holding hands, which Adrienne said is something they don’t do regularly.  Paul made a beautiful toast to her at dinner that night, and the kiss was something we had never seen between the two of them since RHOBH started.  I think Adrienne is a really tough women and it seems that she has difficulty allowing herself to be vulnerable, even with Paul.   It’s evident that there is a lot of love there.

On the second night of their trip, Kyle hosted a dinner for Mauricio’s birthday.  Everyone was seated and in the middle of a toast when Kim and Ken finally joined the party.  You could see from the moment they walked to the table, Kyle was annoyed with them and expected some sort of explanation about where they had been and what had taken them so long to arrive in Hawaii.  (Keep in mind that they had already missed a day and a half of the trip.)  What they got instead was a made up story about Ken having to work because Kim didn’t feel like discussing the REAL reason she was just getting there with Kyle (again something about her drivers license being expired and not finding her passport).  As a viewer, I didn’t feel like WE even got the real explanation during her “confession” segment.   Mauricio and Kyle clearly weren’t buying the “Ken had to work” excuse, because they both thought Ken was retired.  This is really the first time we see Mauricio visibly frustrated with the situation and calling Kim on the inconsistencies in her story.   Everyone at the table knew it was a lie, and Kim just wanted to brush it off and move on.  Mauricio and Kyle weren’t having it and kept pushing her to tell the truth, which just resulted in Kim getting pissy and defensive.  It seems like they were able to move on with the rest of their evening, but there definitely a storm brewing.

The next day, Mauricio and Kyle had chartered a catamaran and the entire group was sitting on a bus outside the resort waiting for Kim and Ken for over 20 minutes.   It was 11:30am, and Kyle and Lisa went up to their room, looking for them.  What happened in the next 5 minutes were the funniest of the entire episode!  The two of them dressed in their glamorous beachwear and jewelry looked like a couple of wanna-be super spies!!  Between banging on the outside of Kim’s hotel door to climbing over Kyle’s balcony, the commentary was stand-up special worthy!   Lisa – “I don’t want to see them humping or anything”.  Kyle – “nobody calls it that”.  Kyle  - “You’re going to jump in those heels?”   Lisa – “I work out in these heels – oh my ass is stuck in the thing!”  Kyle had to half lift / half pull Lisa over the divider wall between the balconies.  Hysterical!   They seemed to get Kim’s attention through the sliding glass doors, and then walked around again to their hotel door.   After some nonsense about the alarm not going off, they said they thought they would be 10 minutes or so (if they could find Kim’s suit bottoms) and they were sorry.  Kim and Lisa left their room, went back downstairs and decided that they should leave and head out for their day.  Once at the dock, the boat was beautiful, they were all ready to go, the girls were comparing their boobies and who had the best ones!  (Camille won!)  No sooner had they pulled away from the shoreline and were motoring out to sea did Kim and Ken pull up to the dock.  Kyle saw her but they made the decision not to turn around because they were already so delayed that they didn’t want to miss the rest of their day.  Camille summed it up best when she said Kim needed to realize that the world doesn’t wait for her.   Kyle felt bad that Kim was missing out on the day, but she was being disrespectful of everyone else’s time.

Ken and Kim had lunch back at the hotel, and her motto of the day was “everything works out for a reason”.   It must have come out of her mouth 4 or 5 times in the span of the next 15 minutes of the show, whenever she wanted to move on from the topic at hand.  She seemed very sluggish and somewhat out of it.  Ken was very bothered by Lisa and Kyle banging on the door that morning, and was adamant that everyone needed to respect Kim “or else”.   It’s apparent that Kim is enjoying Ken “having her back” as she puts it.  He wasn’t going to stand for anyone being disrespectful, and he would “throw jabs back” if need be.   The stage was definitely being set for a showdown later on in the day.

Back on the catamaran, the captain found the perfect spot to anchor and the gang had a relaxing afternoon.  As usual, hijinx and snarky commentary weaved in between the fun.  Lisa felt the need to untie one side of Brandi’s bikini bottom and she panicked (“my vagina would be in the air!”).  Mauricio, Kyle, Camille and Paul went snorkeling around some beautiful coral and fish while Lisa narrated from the boat (“who cares what’s down there anyway right? . . . Just put on the science channel for gods sake when you get home”).  Once again, it’s great to see these people who really like each other and have a good time just relaxing and being silly.

Another evening, another dinner party, another opportunity for a train wreck.  Ken was itching for a fight, which was clear from the moment he confronted Paul and Adrienne about what they were saying to Kim (which was nothing by positive commentary about Ken).   That encounter made Ken look like an over-protective bully, and I’m surprised that Paul stood for it.  Everyone looked beautiful, the room was glamorous and it was clearly going to be a Five-Star dinner if they could get through it without bloodshed.  Kyle gave a wonderful toast to her husband, and you can really see the love between the two of them.  As the evening progressed (and maybe the cocktails??) Kyle felt that Kim was being disrespectful of Mauricio’s birthday by pretending everything was fine when she had missed 90% of the planned events.  All Kyle (and everyone at the table wanted) was for Kim to be honest and accountable for her actions.   Clearly that was not going to happen, and Ken jumping in with his two cents worth (“We don’t care”) did nothing to help the situation.  Instead of continuing to be confronted about her lies and behavior during the trip, Kim and Ken excused themselves and left the room.

Once they were gone, Kyle was very upset and explained that she was tired of feeling like the bad guy when she expected Kim to be accountable for her actions.  She doesn’t know how to ignore the elephant in the room and pretend like nothing is wrong.  Lisa and Brandi had great, supportive advice for her – but I’m not sure Kyle was in a place to hear it.  Brandi felt that Kim clearly has a problem and she isn’t going to get the help she needs until she asks for it herself.  Everyone acknowledged that Kyle cares very deeply for Kim, but agreed that Kim seems to be in a place where she doesn’t care for herself.  In my opinion, Lisa said the wisest thing when she told Kyle she’s never going to get what she wants from Kim, she can’t change her, and she needs to move on and not let it bother her so much.  Easy things to say, very difficult to put in to action.

Back on the mainland we saw Taylor go to Dana’s house for lunch.  We haven’t really gotten to know much about Ms. Wilkey this season outside of label dropping and $25,000 sunglasses, but this episode really showed how much she cares for Taylor.  She started by telling Taylor how worried she had been about her since the White Party, and how she has always believed and supported her.  Dana was struggling to find the right words to tell Taylor that she wanted to support her now but she is afraid and doesn’t know how.  Taylor interrupted her to tell her that her marriage to Russell was over.  Taylor said that she left him and he’s gone.  Dana listened to her talk of everything she has done in the last 6 months to make it work and that they have both finally recognized that they cant be together anymore.  Dana told her that everybody sensed it, which is why they wanted her to speak up.  When she wouldn’t, they needed to pull away from her because they couldn’t stand what was going on anymore.  Dana told her that she felt like everyone would come around and be supportive of her, and that she loves Taylor very much.  I was very glad to see Dana being so supportive of Taylor, and Taylor being honest (as much as we saw on camera) about what has been happening the last 6 months.  Unfortunately, we all know that the worst is yet to come.
